School Activity Fee
Voluntary School Activity Fee for Gr. 9 - 12
For the 2023-24 school year, PECI is requesting that parents/guardians voluntarily pay a school activity fee of $15 per student to a maximum of $45. This is for students in grades 9 to 12. Online payment will be available through School Cash Online beginning in September, 2023.
What are Student Activity Fees?
PECI relies primarily on funds collected from parents/guardians to run extracurricular activities, enrichment events, and to support student initiatives. Regardless of paying any fees, all students are permitted and encouraged to participate in all aspects of school life. There are 2 types of Fees collected at PECI.
Type 1 - Participation Based
To pay the costs associated with running competitive sports teams, clubs, and field trips the school charges fees to student participants.
Type 2 - Voluntary
There are some events and initiatives, open to all students, for which voluntary student fees help pay the cost. The purpose of the fee is to support events and initiatives designed to enrich and enhance the student experience through involvement in extracurricular life at school. These activities may include:
Guest Speaker Assemblies
Intramurals
Students’ Council Spirit Activities
Transition Events i.e. Kindergarten Orientation, French Immersion Info Night, Gr.8 to 9 Info Night
Student Recognition Events i.e. Graduation and Awards ceremonies
Improvements to Student Common Areas
Community Events i.e. BBQs and Open Houses
We acknowledge that our families have different financial circumstances, and appreciate your consideration of this request, while deeply respecting your decision to participate.
Possible Other School Fees
Throughout the school year there are various fundraising activities for various causes – this is always optional.
Students may have opportunities to purchase materials, tools, or supplies that are of a superior quality to those provided by the school. For example, there may be opportunities to purchase hardwood for a construction class project, or a better quality of paint for an Art project. The use of enhanced materials have no impact on the assessment and evaluation of student work.
We also acknowledge the inequity that can be created by economic circumstance, and invite students or parents/guardians to contact us - when in need - so that we can ensure equitable participation at PECI.
