Women’s History Month is celebrated every March of the year. Women’s History Month first started as Women’s Day that was celebrated on February 28, 1909 by a group of Manhattan socialists and suffrage activists to honor the first-year of the Garment Strike that was led by the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union.
This month is an opportunity to celebrate the diverse and frequently unacknowledged contributions that women have made to history, culture, and society. It is also an opportunity for women especially us teenage girls to be the voice of women who are or still oppressed or held back by continuous sexism.
Young girls around the world are given the bravery, self-esteem, and willpower to follow in the footsteps of our foremothers thanks to Women's History Month. Our history will also serve as a source of inspiration for present and future generations to follow in the footsteps of the women who built the foundation for our success, fair treatment, and social acceptance.
It's a chance to acknowledge the achievements of women. Important historical occurrences that have improved the globe are abundant. The struggles for voting rights, civil rights, LGBTQ+ rights, labor rights, children's rights, and many other causes have historically been mostly driven by women. As we continue to celebrate this month should we not disregard the hardships of every woman in our history. We shall be loud and proud for who and what they have long fought for- a freedom of every woman be it linguistic, cultural, economic, or political. And as old folks’ say: ABANTE BABAE
