Half-year compulsory course
This course is designed to introduce students to aspects of our nation's history. The course begins with a study of the settlement of Aotearoa, looking at Pacific migration, Te Ao Māori, and then the European Settlement of Aotearoa. Our second topic is ‘Porirua Proud’, which looks into the history of our amazing city through significant people and places. This course will also introduce historical concepts, including cause and consequence, continuity and change, evidence, significance, and perspectives.

Half-year compulsory course
This course builds on the skills learnt in Year 9 Aotearoa Histories by studying national identity. The topics that help us unpack these ideas of identity are ‘The Mau Movement’ and ‘The Māori Battalion’. ‘The Mau Movement’ investigates the administration of Sāmoa by the New Zealand Government from 1918-1962 and the enduring relationship between Sāmoa and New Zealand. ‘The Māori Battalion’ looks at the reasons behind Aotearoa’s involvement in WW2 through the experiences of the Battalion from enlistment through to their return to Aotearoa after the war.

Students grow their understanding of operating a successful business, why a business is established, the types of businesses and the importance of innovation and marketing. Other topics include interaction between businesses, people and the community, relationships between employers and employees and understanding the importance of sound financial management.

In addition, there is an emphasis on students learning about current economic events that affect our lives.

Students will research and analyse the concepts of Marketing and develop a product for sale to a targeted market. Students will gain an understanding of how businesses develop desirable products through market research and innovation. Students will look into the world of e-commerce and design an e-catalogue.

Students will learn financial literacy and Accounting skills related to budgeting, saving, investing, and other money tools. If you want to be independent with your money management, learn basic Economics using fun holiday travel ideas, and learn how to handle risk and rewards to better plan for your financial future? Then this is the course for you!!

This half-year course explores the interaction between people and the environment, focusing on natural disasters and human migration. Our first unit will delve into the fascinating geography of natural disasters, uncovering their causes and impacts on different regions.
In the second unit, students will investigate how these environmental events drive human migration and shape communities worldwide. Through case studies and interactive projects, students will gain insight into the challenges and responses of affected populations.
