Full year course
Level 1 Music provides ākonga with a broad range of skills that may lead them towards a pathway in composition, musicology, music technology and performance. This course will also develop deeper and more transferable skills such as self-management, collaboration and articulating creative concepts. They will continue to develop their musicianship skills on their specific instrument, with lessons offered in a range of different instruments. Students are encouraged to participate in a co-curricular Performing Arts group related to their instrumental lessons.

Full year course
Students learn about the history of Theatre Aotearoa, planting their own performances in the society they live in. Literacy skills are built on to develop performers who can create their own work, pulling on their whakapapa and the life experiences of themselves and those around them. Students must be prepared to work both on the stage and in support of those on the stage in directing and technical roles of the theatre. A strong commitment is expected as rehearsals will be required outside of class time.

Full year course
This is a study of Te Reo Māori language, tikanga and kawa of the Māori world in many different contexts. This course develops skills of making inquiries about yourself and developing communication, written, aural, oral, and comprehension of various familiar Māori texts. You develop basic conversations in Te Reo Māori and be able to write and talk about what has happened in the past, present and future. The topics include Mihi Atu Mihi Mai, Te kōrero mō te ora o te reo i mua i te tau 1970 and Te whakapuaki whakaaro i runga i te āta rere o te reo

This is a performance-based course. Students are expected to perform within a range of dramatic contexts. Students learn and explore a theatre form through group devising, undertake a class production, and analyse a character through a scripted context. Students are expected to view theatre and think critically about the director’s intentions. A strong commitment is essential as students will be expected to attend rehearsals outside of school hours. Students are expected to have existing stage experience or equivalent confidence on a stage.

Specialised composition and music technology tasks are engaged to broaden ākonga experience within music study. Students will continue learning an instrument either privately or through the itinerant scheme at school to support their learning. Full year option course
This is a study of Maori Performing Arts at NCEA L3 (Te Ao Haka),Te Reo Māori, tikanga, kawa and the history of the Māori Performance world in several different contexts and performance modes. This course develops the skills of designing bracket items, Kakahu styles, Artistic forms, haka, waiata, a ringa, moteatea, whakaeke, poi, mau rakau, kemu, composition writing and the whakapapa of Maori composers. This also includes developing skills in communication, written, aural, oral, and comprehension of various written texts. You create the ability to perform, converse, write, and talk about what has happened in the past, present, and future, as well as the landscape and themes of Te Ao Māori through Kapa Haka, along with what is popular in society. Achievement standards include. Reflect on a personal learning journey in the discipline of Te Ao Haka. Perform three categories within a discipline of Te Ao Haka and demonstrate an understanding of a key role within Te Ao Haka.
