Compulsory Junior Courses
Ākonga will experience a range of different activities, challenges and opportunities that allow them to develop their interpersonal skills and practical physical skills. These group activities encourage them to work cooperatively and constructively with people of all cultures and abilities.
Enjoyment within the Health and Physical Education area is promoted amongst all ākonga. They are taught key skills to make informed decisions on living a healthy life and taking action for their wellbeing.
Physical Education topics include athletics, team building, invasion games, traditional activities, skill learning, moving body, summer of sport, and innovation in sport.
Health topics include reflecting on their own Hauora (te whare tapa whā), developing strategies to look after their own well-being, nutrition, staying safe, sexuality, and healthy relationships.

Half year compulsory course
Ākonga will build on their knowledge and experiences from Year 9 and complete various physical and sporting activities, challenges and opportunities. These varied opportunities will allow ākonga to develop their interpersonal skills to be able to work cooperatively and constructively with their peers.
Enjoyment within the Health and Physical Education area is promoted amongst all ākonga. They are taught key skills to make informed decisions on living a healthy life and taking action for their future wellbeing.
Physical Education topics include team building, invasion games, innovation in sports, traditional activities, international games, and the moving body.
Health topics include reflecting on their hauora, developing strategies to look after their well-being, keeping safe, nutrition, sexuality/healthy relationships, and mental health.

Half Year Option Courses
Half-year option
Do you want to learn how to take your training to the next level? This course is designed for ākonga who want to improve their sporting skills, understand skill development, increase their fitness and create personal training programmes. Ākonga will learn basic biomechanics concepts and knowledge of anatomy to break down a chosen skill and analyse how to improve it. Using exercise physiology, ākonga will design and take part in their training programme. This course involves both a practical and theoretical component and prepares ākonga for senior physical education.
