Mathematics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in quantities, space, and time. Statistics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in data. Both equip ākonga with effective means for modelling, analysing, and interpreting the world in which they live. Studying mathematics and statistics helps develop creative, critical, strategic, and logical thinking skills.
Year 9 Mathematics is a course designed to teach skills and applications aimed at Curriculum Level 4 and beginning Level 4, as well as consolidating the skills learned in Years 7-8 and demonstrating the set-out and thinking required for Mathematics in their future years.

This course fosters a deeper understanding of mathematical and statistical concepts with the expectation that these will be used in a variety of contexts across the curriculum and prepare students for the beginning of their NCEA qualifications.
