Half year optional course
Dance aims to introduce the skills needed to perform and choreograph dance through various topics and styles. Dance terminology will be incorporated into each topic to support each new skill as it is learned.
Students who enjoy being active, have a passion for dance and are interested in being imaginative and creative should take this course. It develops self-management and interpersonal skills, builds confidence and encourages participation. This course is also suitable for those who study dance outside of school, as they have the opportunity to build on their knowledge, gain context in dance and learn new styles.

Year 9 Drama
Half year option course
In this course, students learn the basics of using their body, voice, movement, face and space to communicate their ideas. The work done in Year 9 Drama sets students up well with confidence and a strong sense of whanaungatanga to develop their self-management and communication skills. We will explore characters, group devising and scripts to create well-rounded performers.

Half-year option course
This course is designed for musicians of all levels. You can continue to develop your current music skills or learn to play the guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and/or improve your singing abilities. Students are encouraged to participate in a co-curricular Performing Arts group related to their instrumental lessons. Regardless of your current level, instrumental tutors are available once a week, and time is allotted for practice. This course includes units such as The Elements of Music, Performance, Composition, and Music Theory skills. Through this course, you will be on your way to becoming a well-rounded musician.

First half year optional course
In this half year course, students will learn Te Reo Māori, tikanga me ona kawa within a Māori context, in many different situations. Students will develop listening, speaking, writing and reading skills of Te Reo Māori and an understanding of Māori concepts. Tauira will learn through Mihi, Whakapapa, Kura, Kainga, Marae, Te Ao Taiohi, and Whakawhanautanga. There are regular assessments on reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the end of each term.

Year 10 half year option subjects
Half year option course
Dance in Year 10 builds on the skills and techniques introduced in Year 9, focusing on performance and choreography. You do not need to have studied Dance in Year 9 to take this course. Students will develop ideas to create dance works and learn various new styles and techniques.
Students who have a passion for dance, are interested in being imaginative and creative and enjoy learning practical skills should take this course. It develops self-management and interpersonal skills, builds self-confidence, encourages creativity and fosters strong collaboration skills. Year 10 Dance leads on to NCEA Dance Level 1.
Full (10DRA) rHalf year (10DRP) option
In Year 10, Drama students will look at stage combat and group devising as well as perform a role in a Melodrama. The full year course will perform a role in a scene for an audience as well as take on projects to develop their knowledge and experience of the technical aspects of stage performances, such as script development, costume, lighting, and set design. This course is designed to show students what different opportunities NCEA Drama can offer and build a well-rounded learner and theatre practitioner.

Half (10MUP) year option
Year 10 Music includes instrumental lessons, performance opportunities, and units including: Performance, Drumline, MIDI Sequencing and Composition. Follow your passion, engage in new genres and prepare for NCEA through project-based learning. Students are encouraged to participate in a co-curricular Performing Arts group related to their instrumental lessons.

Full year option
Students in Year 10 continue to develop their understanding of Whakawhanaungatanga, Tino Rangatiratanga, Wairua, Hinengaro, Tinana and Whanau through Te Reo Māori, tikanga me ona kawa and society through a Māori perspective. The Māori world is reflected in different contexts to develop skills of inquiry, critical thinking, communication, written, aural, oral, and comprehension of varied Te Reo Māori texts within a historical, present and future approach. Topics include Korero, Turangawaewae, Te Tiriti, Marae, Te Ao Taiohi and Hitori.
