Full year course
This course is for ākonga who are interested in Physical Education and enjoy being active. Ākonga will participate in various physical activities, including individual and team sports, fitness and group challenges. They will have a chance to understand the body's function related to physical activity, break down different socio-cultural factors and how they affect participation, demonstrate interpersonal skills, develop skill acquisition and investigate what affects participation.
Sporting contexts covered in the course - Kī o Rahi, Flag, Netball, Pickleball, Volleyball, Basketball and Team Building Challenges
This course offers the same standards as PEO100 so students WILL NOT be able to choose both subject options.

Full year course
This course is for anyone who has an interest in the outdoors. Ākonga have a chance to develop an understanding of a range of important outdoor skills along with biophysical, risk management, environmental and Te Ao Māori concepts. They will also learn and improve their interpersonal skills throughout a team building program and demonstrate strategies to improve their performance in different outdoor activities.
The Outdoor Pursuits that Ākonga take part in are mountain biking, kayaking, bushcraft and tramping, in and around Porirua and the Wellington region.
This course offers the same standards as PED100 so students CANNOT choose both subject options.

Full year compulsory course
This course develops a further understanding of Aotearoa, New Zealand, as a bicultural nation with diverse viewpoints on hauora, health and wellbeing. Ākonga are given the opportunity to develop their critical thinking skills, explore ways to manage situations of change that can impact our well-being, and take actions that can enhance their hauora.
Topics within this course include hauora, decision making as well as strategies and influences on hauora. Through this course, ākonga can learn foundational knowledge and skills that can lead to a range of future pathways within industries such as Education, Health, Science, Hospitality and Government.

Level 2 - Option Courses
Full year course
Ākonga will build on what is covered in PED100 and will learn about methods and principles of training, leadership, sports coaching/ running an event and skill development. The course involves implementing key biophysical and socio-cultural knowledge across a range of sporting situations.
The following units are included in the course: biophysical principles relating to skill development; examining the significance for self, others and society of a sporting event; demonstrating quality performance in Netball, Volleyball, Flag and Fitness Challenges; and demonstrating social responsibility in physical activity.

There will be a range of unit and achievement standards based around the outdoors that ākonga can choose from to better meet their learning needs. Ākonga will have the opportunity to take part in several different outdoor activities in and around Porirua and the Wellington region. The outdoor pursuits covered during the course include mountain biking, tramping, navigation, running an outdoor activity, camping and orienteering.

Ākonga will critically explore influences that undermine or support their wellbeing and others. This course empowers and values individuals, groups and communities to improve health outcomes. Ākonga will look at a range of topics, including teenage alcohol use, health promotion initiatives, managing times of change, discrimination, and sexuality. We seek to challenge and explore values, beliefs and opinions relating to various topics. Ākonga are given the opportunity to take action to enhance the wellbeing of themselves and others.

Level 3 - Option Courses
Full year course
Ākonga will explore biophysical and socio-cultural concepts within the context of ‘in, through and about movement’. Units will focus on Sports in Society, Skill Learning (Performance Improvement Programme) and Leadership in Sport. The course gives ākonga a choice to complete Level 3 Achievement or Unit standards in some areas and will expand on the key concepts covered in PED200. Having these different standard options will allow ākonga to choose the best program that suits their goals for the course. Some offsite opportunities are available for the students, such as coaching in primary schools, visiting a local gym, and lawn bowls club. This course uses a combination of both practical and theoretical elements.

Exploring attitudes, values, and different practices that support and undermine health and well-being are major focuses for this subject. Topics include national and international health issues, evaluating health practices in New Zealand and ethical issues in relation to well-being. Ākonga study issues that face today's youth and are given the chance to make recommendations for change.

Full year course
This course aims to provide ākonga with an introduction to the knowledge, skills, attributes and attitudes associated with the Police and policing as a career. The course provides an opportunity for ākonga to explore the physical and leadership requirements of a police officer. Completing this course will aid ākonga in a possible future police career pathway by giving them more in depth knowledge around the requirements for joining the police and the job description. There are offsite trips to various police departments as well as guest speakers who discuss the police career with the class. There are practical and theoretical elements to this course.
