EAR- TRAINING

Being able to really hear music, and understand or reproduce it in real time, is one of the most valuable skills a musician can have. The following pages introduce some of the most common ways to train your ears and develop your musical understanding. However, this is really a life-long pursuit for any serious musician!

As with most aspects of music, Aural skills are most easily mastered if you break the subject down into smaller, manageable parts. Pages in this section will be divided into several broad categories:

Solfege (Tonic Sol-fa)

Recognising Intervals

Recognising Chords

Extended Chords

Bass Lines and Melodies

Internal Harmonies and Voicings

Transcribing Rhythms
