Join us for a discussion on mentorship, featuring the perspective of a young voice. Joined by her mentor, Antioch Faculty member Dr. John Conteh, Genevieve C.L. Brewah will highlight her recently published work ‘The Night of the Soldiers’.
Dr. John Conteh received his Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from Argosy University, Washington DC in 2013, and his master’s degree in Community Counseling from University of Rochester in 2004. He is currently a Core Faculty in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Antioch University Seattle.
Dr. Conteh is the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) 2023 Research Award winner for the Western Association for Counselor Education & Supervision (WACES) Region. He has interest in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, and mentoring. Some of his research work include international counseling and global mental health, trauma, counselors-in-training self-efficacy, quality of life, lived experiences of resilience among immigrants, multicultural issues and intersectionality, ethics, and substance use and abuse. He is a Peer-Review Board member with the Journal of Educators Online (JEO: https://www.thejeo.com/peer) and Editorial Board member of the Journal of Counselor Preparation, Supervision (JCPS: https://digitalcommons.sacredheart.edu/jcps/editorialboard.html), and Chair, Best Graduate Student Paper Award Committee for the African Studies and Research Forum (ASRF https://asrfonline.org)
Genevieve Charlene Lubanya Brewah, born in 2013, is currently a 5th grade student at Halls Cross Roads Elementary School. She is also an author who skillfully combines her ideas and research to create captivating stories.
She enjoys writing a variety of genres and subjects and has a keen sense of humor. She is highly skilled at effectively expressing herself through language. She aims to motivate children to explore their creativity and unlock their full potential through the act of writing and publishing. Aside from her initial published work, "The Night of the Soldiers," she has authored five additional unpublished books: "Within Reach of Freedom," "Middle School Drama Series," "The Attack on Tuesday," "Where Our Heroes Lie."and "The Wonders of the Periodic Table."
Genevieve is a recipient of the 2023 Carson Scholars award and has represented her school at the 2023 Young Scholars Program (Pathways in STEM) at Villanova University in Philadelphia. She took part in two programs at her school that were specifically designed for girls: Girls on the Run and Girl Scouts. In addition, Genevieve serves as a safety patrol Captain, ensuring that students are aware of and adhere to classroom safety standards, as well as providing guidance on bus and crossing safety.
