In 2021 both the American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychological Association published public apologies for their roles in contributing to systemic racism in the United States. Join us for a lively conversation between Patrice Bone and David Tripp about these apologies and the role Psychiatry and Psychology play in maintaining racism here and abroad.
Patrice Bone is a licensed marriage and family therapist in private practice based in Los Angeles. She specializes in psychotherapy for black women who are tired of being superwomen. In addition to her therapy work, Patrice is a clinical supervisor for associates in private practice. She is an instructor at Antioch University Los Angeles, where she teaches undergraduate psychology. Patrice's guiding principle is from Walt Whitman: "Do I contradict myself?/Very well then I contradict myself,/(I am large, I contain multitudes.)"
David Tripp, PhD taught at USC, CSULA, Southwest CC, and Glendale CC before teaching his first course at Antioch in the summer of 1989 and he's been here ever since. He served as chair of the BA program (1998-2002) and was the Founding Director (1999) of the Bridge Program. Always passionate about teaching and suffering from an "infinite curiosity problem," over the years he has designed over 40 courses or workshops for undergraduate students.
