Dr. Anna Everett is an Emeritus Professor at UC Santa Barbara, and a 2nd District Commissioner for Women. She is also an elected member of the Santa Barbara City College Board of Trustees. Dr. Everett is a media historian by training with numerous scholarly publications in film, TV, and new media technologies focusing on race and gender representations. She is a Ford Foundation Fellow, and a two-time recipient of the Fulbright Senior Scholar Award, a MacArthur Foundation Subject Area Expert, among other honors and awards. Her many publications include the books Returning the Gaze: A Genealogy of Black Film Criticism, 1909-1949; Learning Race and Ethnicity: Youth and Digital Media, AfroGeeks: Beyond the Digital Divide, Digital Diaspora: A Race for Cyberspace, among many others. She has recently launched a diversity, equity, and inclusion consulting business, EDS (Everett Diversity Strategies+).
Anna Kwong, born and raised in Hong Kong, a British colony then, has lived abroad in many countries, but she put down roots in California, where she began her lifelong career as a global entrepreneur. With a keen sense of business acumen and drive for social missions, Anna co-founded a global technology firm and worked on numerous overseas trading and joint ventures. She started teaching at California Lutheran University MBA program in 1990 and later expanded her teaching horizons to include junior community college and undergraduate schools at UCSB, SBCC, and Pepperdine. Anna launched the Global Trade Center while at CLU, using her experience to help California-based businesses working on venturing overseas, which cemented her passion for the global industry.
In 2015, she was appointed the first Chair of Antioch’s MBA program in Santa Barbara. Her drive for social responsibility in business aligned greatly with Antioch’s philosophy, making it a perfect fit. Anna continues to devote her passion to educating a new class of global business leaders who combine social responsibility, innovation, and strategic leadership. In 2018, she was honored as one of the top 50 businesswomen across the tri-county region of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura. In addition, she was recognized as a leader in higher education. Currently, she serves as the Core Faculty and Chair of Undergraduate Studies at Antioch University Santa Barbara.
