The goal of this discussion is collective reflection, learning, and to identify actionable steps that foster a more supportive academic environment.
Danyaile Hammond, AUS Student Success & Retention Specialist, is a committed member of the Antioch community who actively engages in anti-racist and belonging initiatives to enhance inclusivity at AU. She serves as a member of Anti-Racism Task Force, the Diversity Council, and the Black Student Union, and she’s been instrumental in pioneering AUS’ Diversity Fellowship and Peer Mentorship program, and other initiatives that promote culture awareness, inclusivity, and robust student support. Danyaile's research focuses on trauma-informed and holistic support, specifically emphasizing the experiences of Black women in higher education. Through multifaceted involvement and commitment to transformative research, Danyaile consistently works to contribute to advancing equity and fostering supportive environments.
Angela Banks is a licensed therapist in Ohio and a first year doctoral student. She is also the owner and director of "The Clarity Couch", a group counseling practice, that specializes in providing counseling services to members of marginalized groups. Angela is passionate about educating the community on topics related to Black and BIPOC mental health and racialized trauma.
