Poor insulation and energy intensive appliances waste both energy and money. Montréal has found a way to help low-income families and individuals overcome the financial barriers to lower energy bills.
What is their innovative solution?
- Action: In Montréal, Option consommateurs and Équiterre offer free in-home energy audit conducted by both a social worker and a technician. They walk through residencies identifying behavior changes, and home improvements that could reduce energy consumption. They also provide simple services and products such as installing weather stripping, low-flow shower heads, or caulking.
- People / partners: Option consommateurs, Equiterre, and The Agence de l’efficacité énergétique du Québec work together to make this program possible.
- Resources: The project is largely funded by the Quebec government.
