What is the problem being addressed?
Environmentally burdened river in between two municipalities in Greece. An option was proposed to turn the river into a road, but instead it was revitalized.
What is their innovative solution?
How can this be applied to Meadville?
French Creek is in much better condition than the River Krasfidon, but this case study introduces the idea of developing the French Creek waterfront area and connecting surrounding communities. Currently, the area around French Creek in Meadville is mostly industrialized. Introducing trails, parks, or shops along French Creek near the city would potentially encourage the citizens of Meadville to interact with and understand their local waterway. The City of Meadville, the Parks and Recreation department, The French Creek Conservancy, and the citizens would have to be involved as well. In the long run, Meadville could reach out to bordering cities to connect bike trails. Overall, developing the waterfront area could increase social activity and commerce if shops and were located along the creek.
