Math Unit 4

Division

This unit focuses on division strategies for bare number problems as well as story problems. Students will use estimation to help give them an idea of where their answer should be. Students will examine what to do with with a reminder in an answer based on the context of the problem.

Skills and Goals:

use the partial quotients method to divide numbers; student may think of using multiplication to help them with this strategy
use estimation to assess the reasonableness of an answer
determine what to do with a remainder based on the context of the problem: ignore the remainder (not needed), report the remainder as a decimal or fraction, or round the quotient up
use the inverse (multiplication) to check if their answer is correct
