How can the school support your child's learning?

Reading and spelling assessments are carried out on a yearly basis for all students in Key Stage 3.

This is to monitor progress and highlight those students who would benefit from targeted support through intervention.

Literacy programme

Those students who would benefit from developing their reading, writing and spelling skills are given the opportunity to join small groups which meet up to three times each week to follow a specially designed literacy programme. Students join the programme at an appropriate level for them. The programme generally runs on a 12 week rota.

Numeracy support

We offer targeted support through intervention to students who experience difficulties with numeracy. The majority of our support staff have attended training sessions on Dyscalculia and have knowledge of strategies to support students who experience difficulties in this area.

One to One tuition

Students experiencing more specific difficulties may be offered additional tuition, on a one to one basis, for a short period of time. Learning programmes are tailored to meet the needs of each student and concentrate mainly on improving reading and spelling skills, but could also help with speech and language, memory, organisation and general self-esteem.

SEMH Programme

Those students who would benefit from enhancing their personal, emotional and socialdevelopment from a communication and thinking skills perspective have the opportunity to join small groups to develop their skills. The programme generally runs on a 12 week rota.
