Skills Builder continues to support our students to develop employment skills in partnership with Stoke and Staffordshire Careers hub. We are currently working at embedding all 8 principles and integrating them into daily practice including during form time, lessons, assemblies, rewards and Benchmark reflections. The 8 principles include: Listening, Speaking, Problem Solving, Creativity, Staying positive, Aiming High, Leadership, Teamwork. We are confident that this will help our students develop skills for life and will dramatically improve their employability as adults. This is going to be especially beneficial for our KS4 classes getting ready for their qualifications and post 16 options.

Year 11 Mock interviews took place in March. The idea of the experience is that students are given the opportunity to develop their CV writing skills, interview technique and etiquette with representatives from the world of work.

This was a great opportunity for our students to experience a real interview experience and to receive invaluable feedback on their strengths and area to work on. The mock interviews were a resounding success and we are incredibly proud of all our Year 11 students. We are also immensely grateful to all our volunteer interviewers which included representatives from local businesses, members of our governing body and members of the Trust, for giving up their time to come in and help our students develop their employability skills and prepare for future interviews. Feedback from students, employers, volunteers and staff was incredibly positive.

Another exciting entry in The National Careers Challenge for 2024! The students produced some excellent work and spent the whole day full of enthusiasm. The winning team was selected and they will be going to the finals in July next year to compete against other schools.

The Big Bang Fair inspires the next generation with hands-on activities, experiments and workshops. Our Year 8's were lucky enough to attend the event on Thursday 22nd June 2023 at The NEC in Birmingham. Staff and student's thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

Year 10's enjoyed their visit to Harper Adams University. The Schools and Colleges Outreach Team provided ours students with information and support on careers, choosing and applying for a course, and what to expect from uni life.

'The National Careers Challenge' provides students with a challenge set by some real life companies. Students work in teams in their year groups to craft their own response to the challenge, putting their teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills to the test.'

Last year we took 6 students to the ICC in Birmingham. They were part of the 1,000 selected from 40,000 who applied. We are running it again this year - with the inspirational learning group coming to run a workshop on Monday 20th November 2023.
