Food Technology

Food Preparation and Nutrition (FP&N), formerly known as Food Technology, is part of the Creative Arts Faculty and is a vibrant and exciting subject that allows all students to be creative and develop skills in food preparation, nutrition and food science.

Food is an area of the curriculum that every student can connect with, as it is a fundamental part of all of our lives. Developing the confidence and skills of students is a vital part of the curriculum, and students are frequently challenged to demonstrate their learning during a combination of theory-based and practical lessons. Not only does FP&N allow students a creative outlet but also increases their confidence and problem solving skills. We aim to develop creative and practical cooks through the exploration of theory-based knowledge.

All students involved in Food at TEC are given regular opportunities to demonstrate their practical abilities and understanding both individually and occasionally in paired work, depending upon the dish being made. This ensures that the students get first-hand experience of skills required to be a competent and independent cook,

In Key Stage 3, the students have one 60 minute curriculum FP&N lesson per week.

Currently, a Key Stage 4 option for Food Preparation and Nutrition is being chosen for September 2021, which is an exciting new opportunity for the school and students alike.
