At Hamford, the Religious Diversity curriculum supports children’s religious literacy. Enabling our children to be confident and able to hold balanced and well-informed conversations about religion and worldviews.
Our Curriculum
By providing a well balanced curriculum, which allows our children to explore and be exposed to different worldviews through artefacts, books, conversations and experiences, Hamford children will be able to make sense of religion and worldviews around them and begin to understand the complex world in which they live. We enable our children to become free thinking individuals, who can make academically informed judgments about important matters of religion and belief which shape the world around them.
Curriculum progression
In EYFS, Religious Diversity is taught through ‘Play to Learn’ and focused carpet sessions, which are taught by the class teachers. Children explore religion and non-religious world views in terms of important people, times, places and objects as well as visiting places of worship (Our local free church). In EYFS the children listen to, and talk about, stories which may raise puzzling and interesting questions and are introduced to ambitious vocabulary when comparing and learning about celebrations around the world.
In KS1 and KS2 Religious Diversity is taught weekly. Each year group has 5 enquiries which they explore through theological, philosophical or human/social science lenses over the year. The lesson structure works with the curriculum to not only allow for children to know and learn more as they progress but it encourages the expression of ideas with peers and provides time for self-reflection.
