Writing Curriculum Intent
At Hamford, we want children to become confident writers by making rich connections across the English curriculum. We aim to ensure all of our children develop a genuine love of language and the written word, through a high quality text-based approach, with reading and oracy acting as the stimulus for writing.

Our Curriculum
At Hamford, children in Years 1 - 6 will follow the 5 part English Mastery Flow structure so that they can make rich connections across the English curriculum, building up writing through carefully sequencing transcription and oral composition. They learn to write well because we carefully support their vocabulary to expand and deepen story language and story structure to help them write. The basic skills in early years together with the combination of the children having a purpose for their writing ensures they learn to write well. Key genres are revisited to enable children to build up an understanding of features and vocabulary. Core grammar, spelling and punctuation are revised each year to enable a solid understanding.
