Design & Technology

DT Curriculum Intent

At Hamford, the Design and Technology curriculum is designed to create opportunities and experiences to design, make and evaluate creative, purposeful products through selecting appropriate materials and developing technical expertise to solve real problems.

Our Curriculum

At Hamford the teaching of DT is categorised into three areas; design and technology, textiles and food and nutrition. Within these the skills are clearly set out for each year group to ensure progression is made as children move through the school.

A DT unit is structured as follows:

  • Research and evaluate existing products

  • Plan and design product - looking at materials and tools needed and specific methods

  • Practice method

  • Make product

  • Evaluate product

  • Make any adaptations if necessary
