• To provide ample opportunities, both in and outside the classroom, to develop all four skills .

The importance of a languages education for young people is significant and it ensures they are well prepared to:

• Be a confident and effective communicator in both familiar and unfamiliar contexts

• Embrace and celebrate other cultures and languages

• Recognise the advantages of language learning and the opportunities it can bring in travel, employment and personal enjoyment

• Be able to use languages spontaneously 

Key Stage 3

Year 7 units of study include a focus on the key concepts of:

• Myself

• My Free Time

• My School

• My Family and Friends

• My House

• Food and Drink

Year 8 units of study include a focus on the key concepts of:

• My Holidays

• My Routine

• Healthy Lifestyle

• My City

• At the Doctors

Year 9 units of study include a focus on the key concepts of:

• Holidays and Grammar

• Jobs

• Social Media and interests

• Culture and World issues

• Travelling

• Question Words and Fashion

Key Stage 4

The specification offers a smooth transition from popular Key Stage 3 content, and assessments are designed to allow students to demonstrate their skills to the best of their ability. This qualification is designed to show how language is used in real life.

Students will be tested in listening, reading, speaking and writing and will develop transferable skills relevant to further study and the world of work.

Students will either be entered for the Foundation Tier or the Higher Tier. All four skills need to be taken at the same tier.

Foundation Tier: (Grades 1-5)

• Listening: 25% (exam) - 35 minutes

• Speaking: 25% (exam) - 7-9 minutes

• Reading: 25% (exam) - 45 minutes

• Writing: 25% (exam) - 1 hour

Higher Tier: (Grades 4-9)

• Listening: 25% (exam) - 45 minutes

• Speaking: 25% (exam) - 10-12 minutes

• Reading: 25% (exam) - 1 hour

• Writing: 25% (exam) - 1 hour 15 minutes

Students will be taught a range of topics within the specification that aims to inspire students who are interested in Spanish culture and Spanish speaking countries. Students study topics under a range of different themes:

• Theme 1: Identity and culture

• Theme 2: Local, national, international and global areas of interest

• Theme 3: Current and future study and employment
