Key Stage 4

This qualification is for learners who wish to develop applied knowledge and practical skills in child development. It is designed with both practical and theoretical elements, which will prepare students for further qualifications in Child Care, Health and Social Care, Psychology, Sociology and Biology.


Through an exam, classroom work and a research project.


The exam is at the end of Year 11 and focuses on the development of a baby from preconception planning till they are 1 years old.

The classroom work and research project focus on the development of a baby to a 5 year old and the practical challenges of child care, both from a parents and a professional’s point of view.
