Welcome to Year 6!
Please find below some key information for Year 6. If you have any questions or would like to know more, please speak to one of the Upper KS2 team at the door or drop us a message on Seesaw.
Communication
This year, we are introducing Seesaw as our method of communication between home and school. We will be showing the children how to record their reading on this platform, as well as using it to share learning and send reminders home. We would like to invite you to engage in this platform.
We are always happy to talk to you and support or help where needed. If you need to talk to us, please make an appointment at the office or see us after school. Alternatively, you can email: contactus@bartonhillacademy.org
If you do have any concerns, your first point of contact should be the class teachers, who know your child the best; Mrs Mosley (Assistant Headteacher and Upper Key Stage 2 Phase Leader) is also available, if needed.
P.E.
This year, Year 6 will take part in P.E on a Monday each week. Please could your child come to school wearing their P.E kit on that day. The P.E. kit expectation is for children to wear:
a red t-shirt (not football kit)
a pair of navy-blue or black shorts
a plain navy or black sweatshirt; however, their school uniform jumper is more than appropriate.
suitable footwear
Learning at Home
Reading at home is one of the most beneficial ways you can support your child’s education and we thank you in advance for your help with this.
Your child will bring home an appropriately levelled reading book, which they will quiz on using Accelerated Reader, once they have finished. We understand that most children in Year 6 are confident and happy to read on their own; however, talking to your child about what they are reading, such as: what has happened, what they have enjoyed about the book as well as what might happen, has been proven to impact their engagement in reading and promote further independence. Please could you ensure your child reads each night at home.
We will also be setting weekly homework every Friday, which will be due on the following Wednesday. All homework will be available on Seesaw.
