Welcome to Year 1
Year One is the beginning of a child’s journey into Key Stage One, so it is a very important year! Our curriculum is very hands on and we support the children with their learning through our inspiring and creative curriculum. We are very lucky that over the year, Mr Whitall will be running forest school sessions with our children. On these days, we ask the children to come in old clothes with a coat and wellies.
Over the year, we look forward to sharing our new and exciting news with you all about the fantastic things that happen in our Year 1 classes. Keep an eye on our twitter page to see the exciting things we are doing as a year group.
Work at Home
Reading at home is one of the most important ways you can support your child’s education and we thank you in advance for your help with this. When they are able to read and blend they will bring home a reading book, please read this with them every night, the children love to show off how good they are at reading. They will have a library book to read for pleasure. Please could you ensure your child reads each night with you at home.
P.E.
Year 1 has P.E. weekly on a Wednesday. Please could your child come to school wearing their P.E kit on that day.
Communication
We are always happy to talk to you and support or help where needed. If you need to talk to us, please make an appointment at the school office or see us after school. Alternatively you can message us on Seesaw. If you do have any concerns, your first point of contact should be the class teachers who know your child best. Mrs McGuire, Assistant Headteacher and KS1 Phase Leader, is also available if needed.
What will the children need in school?
Everyday each child should bring in their book bag wallet containing their 2xRWI books and library book. These books will be changed when appropriate.
A bottle filled with a drink should be with each child everyday.
A coat is always handy for our unpredictable English weather!
