PSHE

At Barton Hill Primary Academy, we are committed to developing the whole child. This is a moral imperative of our curriculum intent.  Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) develops the children’s understanding of their rights and responsibilities, of British values, such as tolerance and democracy, and of healthy lifestyles and relationships. PSHE provides children with the skills to manage risk and make informed personal choices in a rapidly changing and challenging world. We nurture children’s individuality and develop their social and personal skills to enable them to build positive relationships based on respect and tolerance within school and the wider community.

At Barton Hill Primary Academy we follow the Jigsaw PSHE curriculum.  This is a comprehensive Programme for Primary PSHE including statutory Relationships and Health Education, in a spiral, progressive and fully planned scheme of work, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.

With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw 3-11 properly equips schools to deliver engaging and relevant PSHE within a whole-school approach. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus.
