Computing
At Barton Hill, we recognise the value and importance of computing in preparing children to participate and succeed in a rapidly changing world. Our vision is to equip all members of our community with the skills and attitudes needed to succeed in the 21st century.
There are 3 main strands of the computing curriculum:
Computer Science (CS)
In which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming.
Information Technology (IT)
In which pupils are equipped to use to create programs, systems and a range of content.
Digital Literacy (DL)
In which pupils are able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
Computing is taught as a discreet weekly lesson from Year 1. The Kapow schemes of work are used and objectives ensure continuity and progression both within the year group and across the school. It is also embedded across the curriculum and lessons are meaningfully linked to the wider curriculum where relevant.
