Philosophy, the "love of wisdom," is a fascinating and exciting subject which enables students to wrestle with the greatest questions known to humankind. IB Philosophy is a two-year course offered at both the higher level (HL) and standard level (SL). The course will focus on two core themes: 1) What does it mean to be a human being? Key concepts, such as freedom and human nature, identity, and the boundaries of humanity will be explored. 2) What is the relationship between the individual and the state? Key political philosophical concepts, such as the state and government, justice, and liberty and rights will be explored.
Students studying at the higher level will require the study of one additional theme, which may include ethics, social philosophy, or epistemology.
