IB Diploma Students: See IB Policy
Literature and Performance, an IB Standard Level course offered to students entering Grade 11, is an interdisciplinary synthesis of literature and theater. In this course, students engage with at least five literary works, perform dramatic texts, and transform non-dramatic texts into realized performances. The course aims to develop knowledge, skills, and processes associated with both literature and theater, while fostering an understanding of how the two disciplines connect. This course is ideal for students who would like to develop confidence in presentation and performance while grounding their work in literary study and critical thinking. Although an interest in the arts is essential, no acting experience is required.
As part of their assessment in year 2, students will: Analyze content and style in different literary texts; this is assessed through the Paper 1 examination, a comparative essay based on two works studied in the course. Analyze and perform dramatic texts, developing performance skills such as voice, body, and movement; this is assessed through the Written Assignment, in which students critically examine an extract from a dramatic work that they have explored through performance. Transform non-dramatic literary texts into performance; this is assessed through an original 10-minute theatrical performance, and an individual oral reflection, in which students explain and evaluate their creative process.
*Assessment is aligned with the IBO course assessment requirements.
