Creative Writing is a workshop-based English or elective course for Grades 9–12, offered as either two standalone semesters or a full year. It builds foundational fiction and personal narrative skills through focused units on key literary elements (plot, setting, characterization, memoir). Each unit uses mentor texts to analyze how the element functions, followed by original writing and a polished final piece.
The course emphasizes the writing process: multiple drafts, teacher feedback, peer review, conferencing, and reflection, all in a workshop format. Each semester ends with a publication project in which students revise one piece for final publication or exhibition, demonstrating mastery of the element and the process.
