To enroll in the ACS Athens Virtual Algebra 2 & Trigonometry Honors course students must meet the criteria below:
ACS Athens students must meet the following prerequisites to be eligible for course enrollment:
Student performance in the first quarter of the current face-to-face Geometry with Algebraic Topics Honors or Algebra 2 & Trigonometry course will be evaluated with an emphasis on Quarter 1 assessments. Students are expected to perform B and above to be considered for any of the math online courses.
Teacher’s recommendation.
Counselor’s input to ensure alignment with the student’s academic path.
Course description
This course is a fast-paced and rigorous study of advanced algebraic topics, including: equations and inequalities, functions, relations, function transformations, composition, inverse functions, polynomials, quadratics and the properties of the discriminant, logarithms, trigonometric identities, trigonometric functions and equations, sets, probability and combinatorics. It is designed for students planning to study mathematics and /or science in college. A graphic display calculator is required. CASIO CG series graphic display calculator will be used for class instruction and demonstration. Please check with the school before buying a graphing calculator.
*Upon successful completion of this virtual course, students will be required to take a face-to-face placement test, which will be scheduled a week after the final exams, to determine accurate placement in their next on-campus Mathematics course at ACS Athens:
To progress from Algebra 2 & Trigonometry Honors to IB1 AA SL, students must earn a minimum grade of C on both the Algebra 2 & Trigonometry Honors virtual course and the placement test.
To progress from Algebra 2 & Trigonometry Honors to IB1 AA HL, students must earn a minimum grade of B- on both the Algebra 2 & Trigonometry Honors virtual course and the placement test.
To progress from Algebra 2 & Trigonometry Honors to AP Precalculus, students must earn a minimum grade of C on both the Algebra 2 & Trigonometry Honors virtual course and the placement test.
