B- or better in Physics 1 (Honors or Regular)
This one-year course is offered for seniors and is designed for students who intend to take the AP Physics 1 Exam in May / June. It is a rigorous, algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course appropriate for students with a strong interest in Science, Math, Medicine, or Engineering. Students should have achieved at least a B- in Physics 1 before enrolling.
The course covers key topics in physics, starting with Kinematics, where students study motion in one and two dimensions. This is followed by Force and Translational Dynamics, focusing on Newton’s laws and the application of forces in various systems. Students then explore Work, Energy, and Power, examining the relationships between force, motion, and energy. Linear Momentum and Impulse are studied next, including the conservation principles that govern collisions. The course then progresses to Torque and Rotational Dynamics, which connects linear and rotational motion, followed by Rotational Energy and Angular Momentum, exploring rotational motion, rolling, and orbiting systems. Oscillations are introduced, including simple harmonic motion and energy in oscillating systems. The study of Fluids covers density, pressure, and the behavior of fluids under different forces.
