Curriculum for Excellence places learners at the heart of education. At its centre are four fundamental capacities. These capacities reflect and recognise the lifelong nature of education and learning. The four capacities are aimed at helping children and young people to become:

Play Based Approach
A play based approach to learning is adopted throughout Primary 1. The Primary 1 Curriculum at Scotstown School is underpined by the 'Realising the Ambition' framework which outlines the importance of play in the early years development of learners.

Child Centred
The play based approach has the child at the centre of their learning. Our staff observe the learning taking place and give children ownership of their play through responsive and intentional planning. Rich interactions, experiences and spaces provide the correct environment for our learners to develop their skills across a variety of curricular areas.
