Problem Description:

You are going to write a report on the development of the iPad tablet computer, tracking how its hardware specifications have changed as new models have become available.

You will find the wikipedia page on the iPad useful, but you can also use a search engine to search for more information online.

Your teacher will provide you with the iPad Report Worksheet via Google Classroom.

Show your understanding of technological developments by:

• Identifying trends in processor speed
• Identifying trends in memory capacity
• Suggesting likely future developments

Show your understanding of computer technology by:

• Comparing processor speeds of tablets and desktop computers
• Comparing memory capacities of tablets and desktop computers
• Identifying backing storage options available
• Identifying input and output device types
• Suggesting how a tablet can be used because of its input/output devices
• Making a recommendation

Your worksheet should be submitted electronically via Google Classroom.

Extension Task - Alternatives

Whether or not you recommended than an iPad would be helpful for your schoolwork, investigate an example of a different type of computer that could be used to help with your schoolwork.

Using Word or another word processor, write a report on your alternative. Your report should include the following headings

• The specifications - processor speed, memory and storage capacity
• The input and output devices that you would need to help you with your schoolwork - different people will need different peripherals depending on what subjects they take
• The portability of the computer - would you be able to take it with you to school, and if you can't how could you get round that?
• The total cost of all the things you think you would need - You don't have a budget in this task, but approach the cost realistically.
• A comparison of the computer you've examined with the iPad - and a statement about which one would be more useful for your schoolwork
