This website has been created to support pupils who are studying Computer Science at Lochside Academy. Most of the work that your child studies in Computing will put on this website. Sometimes they will want to show you - or have been asked to tell you as part of their homework - what they have achieved in class. This website will help them show you that.
Some of the software that your child uses in school is available as a free download or as a web browser based application. They can easily be installed or view at home, allowing your child to further experiment and practice some of the skills they have learned in class. Though it is impossible to give out extra computer based tasks as homework, your child is welcome to look at the further reading section of the website. This include information and links for pupils who want to find out more about what they have learned in class.
Classes will all be making use of Google Classroom. This lets your child submit some of their class work electronically. Your child will also receive grading on their submitted work and feedback via Google Classroom too. Every pupil in the school has been issued with a google account that they can use to access this at home.
If your child has missed classes, especially those in 4th, 5th and 6th year, you should encourage them to use this website to catch up on what they have missed. Alternately, if you contact the school to ask for work for longer absences, your child's Computing teacher can suggest specific pages of the website to be studied.
You can regularly check on your child's progress in class using Google Classroom. We are currently looking at ways to directly involve parents with Google Classroom, but you can also ask your child to log onto Google Classroom themselves and show you how well evidence tasks and homework are being completed.
Visible learning techniques are an important part of the classroom in Computing at Lochside Academy. This means that your child should always have a good idea of what they have learned in class each day, what skills they have developed that will help them across the school and how well they have done. This makes it easy to ask them about what they have been doing in class!
