Battalion Chief - Health & Safety
The mission of the Health and Safety Division is to control and eliminate recognized workplace hazards, attain an acceptable level of risk, and promote the wellness of our members. This is accomplished with a continuous proactive process of anticipating, identifying, designing, implementing, and evaluating risk-reduction strategies.
In addition to the normal activities of the division, here are some of our accomplished in 2023:
Transitioned the department to an electronic reporting system for injuries to members, departmental vehicle accidents, and property damage. This speeds up the processing of these incidents and will enhance future data collection.
Completed the first Safety Officer Academy for 15 Lieutenants and Captains to function as Incident Safety Officers.
Fully equipped a new workout room at the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department and enhanced exercise equipment at the Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department, Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company, and the Avalon Shores Fire Station.
Worked with the Logistics Bureau to complete specifications on a new Safety Officer vehicle with equipment enhancements to handle roadway incidents.
