2023 Code Enforcement Annual Report
The primary goal of the Code Enforcement Bureau in the Office of the Fire Marshal is to protect lives and property in Anne Arundel County. This is accomplished through the enforcement of both the Fire Laws of Maryland and the regulations specified in the Maryland State Fire Prevention Code and the Anne Arundel County Fire Prevention Code.
In 2023, the Code Enforcement Bureau, with a focus on innovation and training, continued to lead in pioneering initiatives. The implementation of an electronic inspections program in April marked a notable advancement, offering the team access to comprehensive statistics. This facilitates a focused strategy in identifying areas for progress and improvement. Beyond just modernizing procedures, this cutting-edge initiative enhances efficiency and effectiveness in ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations. The integration of this technology has not only streamlined processes, inspections, and overall operations, but has also adapted dynamically to insights and evolving requirements.
Emphasis on cultivating leadership skills is evident in the outstanding achievements of its staff, with several members successfully completing training in Leadership Development. Furthermore, all team members have expanded their knowledge base through continuous training initiatives held at various locations across Maryland and beyond. This underscores their dedication to professional growth, elevating their capacities within the bureau, and nurturing a culture of ongoing improvement and adaptability.
In the same vein, our team commemorated a series of noteworthy accomplishments, symbolizing a year characterized by unwavering dedication and service. Tina Gent, our highly regarded File Clerk, bid farewell after an impressive 31 years of dedicated service.
Additionally, our members actively participated in community outreach programs such as the Shop with a Firefighter Program and involvement in Toys for Tots, showcasing our commitment to creating a positive impact beyond our routine responsibilities. Four of our members furthered their professional journey by attending the National Fire Sprinkler Association Symposium in Atlantic City, NJ, enhancing their expertise in fire safety. Furthermore, we assumed the responsibility of testing over 3,000 Multi-Line Telephone Systems to ensure compliance with Kari's Law, underscoring our dedication to safety and effective communication. Lastly, our team took pride in providing Fire Watch services at all Event-Mode Functions hosted at Maryland Live Hall, illustrating our commitment to securing public spaces and contributing to the overall well-being of our community.
