Assistant Fire Chief - Operations

It is with great pride that I present the Operations Section of the 2023 Annual Report. This report provides a comprehensive overview of the operational activities, achievements, and challenges encountered by the dedicated personnel in the field.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to 94,916 emergency incidents in 2023, including but not limited to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, motor vehicle collisions, and various rescues. Throughout the year, our firefighters and medics demonstrated professionalism, courage, and efficiency in mitigating these incidents while protecting millions of dollars in property and saving countless lives.

Throughout the year, we have maintained our commitment to timely responses in Anne Arundel County, averaging 5 minutes 39 seconds for a response time to an emergency within the county.

Firefighters and medics are not only tasked with running emergencies; community outreach initiatives and continued training are essential. Fire safety initiatives through engagement and education allow our stations to connect with the communities they serve while staying proficient, which is necessary for competency in emergencies.

While we have achieved significant milestones in our operational readiness, we recognize the challenges posed by evolving threats, resource constraints, and community needs. We remain committed to innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement to meet these challenges head-on and ensure the safety and well-being of our community.
