Manager of Volunteer Fire Services
2023 was a good year for our Volunteers. We had over 200 new people join volunteer companies all over the county. Some of these new members joined for administrative duties and the vast majority joined with the hopes of becoming operational members.Â
With MFRI courses back to pre-pandemic numbers, our volunteers had more class options and attendance was up from the prior year. This means we had more opportunities to train volunteers both in introductory courses as well as more advanced courses for those volunteers looking to promote or acquire new skills.Â
Over the year the volunteer companies had an average of 380 active operational members all over the county who provided support and service to the community in over 11,000 incidents across the county.
There was an incredible effort to revive and increase the membership of Company 6, which in previous years had dwindled, and little to no volunteer responses in the previous years. Thanks to the efforts of a group of volunteers, Station 6 now has 10 active riding members who responded to 75 calls in 2023.Â
Finally, we had several volunteer members who got hired in the latest recruit classes. While we will miss them in their respective volunteer companies, we look forward to seeing them on a shift shortly.
