Type-Design
The study of letters and its uses for graphic design is called Typography. Letters come in many styles and shapes having flat even spacing called Gothic, thick and thin letters called Roman. Using serifs and scripts, lettering can be used for design as well as the function of communication. The right style and placement can be the most important thing in an advertisement or brochure. We will use letters as a design element. Looking for the different styles or fonts can be fun and some letters just look good as a design. We will be using color schemes, focal point, and compositions skills.
Purpose: To create a Type Design, using color scheme, a strong composition, and focal point.

PART TWO: Creating your type design
Decide on the format- Vertical or Horizontal. Next consider the shape, long and narrow or rectangular or even circular.
Open an 8" x 10" document, 72 dip.
Look at the format and by using the division of thirds choose a focal point or area of emphasis; the focal point should not be centrally located.
Remember to think about the strategies to help create emphasis: spacing/proximity, contrast - color and size
Decide on a color scheme: Visit color scheme process. You will limit your color palette to any one of the following color schemes: Complement, Double Complement, Split Complement, or Analogous. You will use several values of colors ranging from almost black to almost white. Black and White should not be used as part of your color scheme.
Using the rectangular marquee tool, new layer, and the paint bucket, begin to make blocks of color. At this point do not worry too much about the color; if you put each block of color on a separate layer, you will be able to change them later.
Choose letter font. You will use the same font for the whole design.
Use at least 3 but no more than 7 different letters. Use one color, you can change the colors later.
Be sure that the letters are an important part of the Design.
PUT EACH LETTER ON ITS OWN LAYER.
Using the transform tool, you can distort and change the sizes to fit in spaces or go over more than one line. Be mindful of keeping the area of emphasis the most interesting area. Add letters until you like what you see.
Change the opacity and/or value of different parts of the letters; When your finished, your letters may not necessarily be obvious.
