Onondaga County Sheriff's Office Youth Law Enforcement Academy

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Youth Law Enforcement Academy is accepting applications from students entering the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades. The purpose of the Academy is to foster relationships that will bridge the gaps between law enforcement and youth while also exposing them to future careers in serving their community. 

To be considered, candidates must prove a “C” or better grade average and must complete all forms linked at the Sheriff's Office website, as well as a short essay. Once selected, additional Academy details will be emailed to the Parent & Cadet. 

The summer 2024 Youth Law Enforcement Academy runs from July 8th-12th, 8:30am-3:00pm daily at the Jamesville Correctional Facility campus.  The deadline for the fully completed application is Friday, May 31st, 2024.

EMT Course at Waves Ambulance

SUNY Upstate EMS Programs is delivering an EMT course at WAVES Ambulance starting on May 22, 2024. This is a daytime course that *many* high school seniors are eligible to enroll in as they must be 17 by the end of month in which the course concludes. The course does require students to complete a field internship component which results in direct patient contact hours on an ambulance.

Successful completion of this course can lead to NYS Emergency Medical Technician certification and can lead to post-graduation employment and/or volunteer opportunities as an EMT in New York. See the flyer attached to the left for details.

EMT classes are offered every spring, summer, and fall in Onondaga County and every spring and fall in Tompkins county. Course offerings are listed on their website.

NYS Democratic Senate Campaign Committee Internships

These internships will provide a unique chance for students to gain firsthand experience in the political arena and learn about campaign management, fieldwork and policy-making processes. Students will assist in developing valuable professional skills. This will be a great addition to any student’s resume and can potentially open doors to future opportunities in the field of politics.

Upstate University Hospital Nurse Shadowing 

Have you ever thought you might be interested in a career in Nursing? Upstate University Hospital is offering shadowing opportunities for Nursing at the hospital. 

The goal of the program is to inspire students to pursue Nursing for their education after high school and make students aware of Nursing as a career, especially at Upstate! Syracuse University is excited to announce a new admissions initiative for current high school students that are enlisting in the United States Armed Forces upon graduation from high school. Operation Veteran Promise is a guaranteed admissions opportunity for Central New York high school students. Eligible students will have a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or better and enlist in the United States Military upon graduation. Research indicates that many high school students choose military service upon graduation because of financial concerns, family legacy, or concerns with college readiness.
