How do I meet with my counselor?
If you would like to see your counselor, don't hesitate to stop into the Counseling Center to see if he or she is available or send them an email. If your assigned counselor is not easily accessible and it is an emergency, you are welcome to speak with any counselor. If you wish to schedule an appointment for a later time/date, please ask one of the support staff for assistance in scheduling a time with your counselor. Appointments are generally scheduled during study halls, elective periods or lunch. You should receive a pass from the Counseling Center electronically on the appropriate day.
How do I schedule a Parent-Teacher-Student Conference?
A parent-teacher-student conference is a helpful tool in managing your child's educational experience. If you have communicated with your child's teacher(s) via e-mail or phone but feel a meeting would be helpful to your child's situation, counselors are happy to arrange and facilitate such a conference with either one specific teacher or several.
Conferences are generally scheduled during the Instructional Assistance (IA) period from 2:15 p.m. - 2:50 p.m., when teachers have more flexibility to attend. Students are almost always asked to attend this meeting as they play a vital role in the discussion and creation of an action plan. There are special circumstances when it may be best to meet without the student as determined by the parent, counselor and/or teacher.
How do I request missed work when my child is out sick?
Most assignments will be posted in your child's Google Classrooms.
If your child is going to be or has been absent 3 or more days, call the Counseling Center as they can notify teachers and gather any work not posted in Google Classroom. Work can be picked up between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., unless other arrangements have been made. If there is a planned absence (i.e. a scheduled surgery), the student should communicate with teachers ahead of time to make arrangements for work that will be missed.
What is considered a passing grade?
A grade of 70% or above is considered a passing grade for a course.
For a Regents exam, a score of 65 or above is considered passing.
How are course grades determined?
By the end of a full-year course, students will have 4 ten-week marks.
For a course ending with a Regents Exam, each of the four quarters will count as 25% of the final average. In other words, add the four marks together and divide by 4.
For a course ending with a Local Exam, each of the four quarters, along with the final exam grade, will count as 20% of the final average. In other words, add the five marks together and divide by 5.
For semester courses, each quarter grade is counted twice and the final exam once, and the sum is divided by 5 to determine a final grade.
How do I make the honor roll?
In order to make the honor roll, a student must meet the following criteria:
1. An overall, unweighted, rounded average grade of 85 or above. Physical Education (alternate-day course) counts half. Courses that meet after school are not considered for honor roll.
2. Students with an INC do not qualify for honor roll.
Please note: There is no High Honor Roll at the high school.
What does an 'INC' (Incomplete) on my report card mean?
An 'INC' or 'Incomplete' is sometimes used by teachers (during the first three marking periods) if a student has been legally absent for an extended period of time. This means that the student will have five weeks to make up missed work and have the 'INC' replaced by a numerical grade. The student should speak with his or her teacher to discuss work owed and deadlines.
