Hardy Test Results

Hardy Test Results

Here are the results from the Summer 2014 group. All the data was taken using either the Quarter Wave Plate(QWP) or the Quartz Plate(QP).

Figure 1: This graph can be compared to FIG 2b of Kwiat et al(1999)[5]. While it is not as accurate as Kwiat et al, this graph does show that the QWP adjusts the relative phase difference between the horizontal and vertical polarization components of the pump beam. It shows that Detectors A and B are in good alignment.

Figure 2: This graph was obtained on October 1st, 2014. Note that it appears to be the same as Figure 1, but flipped about the x-axis. The graph can be flipped be either rotating(ie changing θ) the HWP or the QWP.

Calculation of H

For Reference,

θA1= β, θB1 = -β, θA2= -α, θB2 = α

Date: 7/31/14

For State 1:

α = 55°,α = 145° -α = 305°, -α = 35°, β = 71°,β = 161° -β = 289°, -β = 19°

For State 2:

α = 35°,α = 125° -α = 325°, -α = 55°, β = 19°, β = 109° -β = 341°, -β = 71°

Date: 11/19/14

Date: 1/8/15

*For the data taken on 11/19/14 and 1/8/15, α = 51° for State 1 and α = 42° for State 2
