Youth Service is an umbrella title for volunteerism, community service, community-based learning, etc. The following is a brief outline of the proposed Tuslaw Youth Service Program, which directly coincides with the district's School Improvement Plan. The Youth Service Option will be available for students who would like to participate in service activities beyond the regularly scheduled school day, earning credit toward graduation.
In order to receive credit students must:
Complete at least 30 hours of volunteer service.
participate in an activity from an approved agency/organization.
provide documentation of service on the Log Sheet (Available in the guidance office)
* Credit will equal .25 per year for at least 30 hours of service. Students would be able to earn a total of 1 credit in four years of high school.
Students must NOT:
receive any compensation from agency/organization.
be court mandated to provide community service.
use hours served in church sponsored activities unless the efforts are humanitarian-based (community at large, mission work, etc.)
