Physical Science 1 credit
Physical Science is a hands-on, real world approach to understanding science. The course is designed to permit you to understand how all the areas of science work together in understanding and solving problems. The student will study concepts in physics, chemistry, and earth science.
Biology 1 credit
This is a required science course that readies the student for the end of the course exam required by ODE. The curriculum follows the Ohio Learning standards, which includes but is not limited to Ecology, Taxonomy, Cellular Biology, Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration, DNA, and Genetics. The laboratory component includes the use of microscopes, practice of the scientific method, and specimens for observation and/or dissection
Chemistry 1 credit
This college preparatory course instructs students in the scientific standards of chemistry. Standards include naming and writing elements, ions, and compounds; naming, writing, and balancing chemical formulas; and mathematically analyzing chemical compounds and formulas. In addition, students learn and apply proper laboratory techniques and procedures for numerous chemical laboratory lessons. A mature attitude and math skills are required for this course. Minimum successful completion of Algebra 1 is required.
**Grades 10-12
Anatomy and Physiology 1 credit
This college preparatory course is a study of human anatomy and physiology. Biological system study from the cellular level to the entire organism is accomplished through lecture and laboratory activities. An emphasis is placed on tissues and organ systems. Various specimens are observed and/or dissected.
**Grades 11-12
Physics 1 credit
This college preparatory course describes motion and forces of all types. In addition, the course covers such topics as: heat, light and lasers, sound, waves, computers, rocketry, and time travel. Numerous labs are completed for each of the topics covered. Minimum successful completion of Geometry is required.
**Grades 11-12
Astronomy Appreciation 1/2 credit
This course is an interdisciplinary course in which students will learn about the earth, the solar system, stars, the galaxy and the universe. Students will also learn about the history of astronomy, the constellations, the lives and deaths of stars, space travel, and the most current research on discoveries. This is a physics and space science class, where algebra will be used extensively to discover astronomical formulas.
**Grades 11-12
The Science of Hunting and Fishing (Conservation Science) 1/2 credit
Students will build an understanding of science content and learn scientific techniques taught through the lens of conservation with an emphasis on hands-on, real-world activities. The curriculum will center on wildlife, land, and water conservation. We will focus on how conservation is involved in hunting, fishing, and trapping, and how they directly benefit habitat enhancement and protection, and wildlife management, including game, non-game and endangered species. We will focus on the Great Lakes and Ohio's bodies of water conservation efforts as well.
**Grades 11-12 (10th graders who will be attending RG Drage can take this course)
The Science of Hunting and Fishing (Conservation Science) II 1/2 credit
This course will continue content covered in The Science of Hunting and Fishing I.
Prerequisite: The Science of Hunting and Fishing I
**Grades 11-12 (10th graders who will be attending RG Drage can take this course)
AP Biology 1 credit
Description: AP Biology is designed to be the equivalent of a college biology course. Students cultivate their understanding of biology through inquiry-based investigations they explore the following topics: evolution, cellular processes, energy and communication, genetics, information transfer, ecology and interactions. This course requires that 25% of the instructional time will be spent in hands on laboratory work, with an emphasis on inquiry-based investigations that provide students with opportunities to apply the science practices.
College Credits Available: Students can receive between 3 to 5 credit hours of equivalent coursework based on their score on the AP Exam in the Spring. Each receiving university sets their own scoring threshold for credit.
Prerequisite: Biology and chemistry
**Grades 11-12
CCP Seven Ideas That Shook the Universe 1 Credit
Description of major revolutionary physical concepts and their implications for understanding the physical universe. The course seeks to unravel many of the mysteries of the Cosmos. It also examines the oftentimes heroic struggle of scientists to understand the universe and our place in it. Finally, it seeks to understand what science is and how the scientific worldview works. Not counted toward requirements for physics major. Prerequisite: None.
