Spanish I 1 Credit
In this course students will learn the basics of the Spanish language. Emphasis will be placed on developing reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Students will study many vocabulary themes and grammar points as well as be introduced to cultural information regarding schools, travel, food, etc. In addition to keeping an organized notebook, students will complete a variety of projects and daily homework assignments which will strengthen their language skills.
*Prerequisite: Teacher approval and C or better in 8th grade English.
Spanish II 1 Credit
This course in a continuation of Spanish I. Students will expand their knowledge of Spanish and sharpen their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. The emphasis in Spanish II will be on increasing vocabulary, the formation and use of many more verb tenses and finer grammatical points. In addition to keeping an organized notebook, students will complete a variety of projects and daily homework assignments which will strengthen their language skills. Students’ proficiency level will continue to increase to the higher end of the novice level.
*Prerequisite: Spanish I with a C or better & teacher recommendation
Spanish III 1 Credit
Spanish III involves a greater study of vocabulary in written context--cultural readings, media articles, short stories, etc. The emphasis in Spanish III will be on increasing vocabulary, improving speaking and listening skills, the formation and use of advanced verb tenses, and reading and writing more fluidly. With the help of videos and internet activities, students will explore areas of cultural diversity in the Spanish-speaking countries, including geographical features, foods, native people, famous people, and celebrations. In addition to keeping an organized notebook, students will complete a variety of projects and daily homework assignments which will strengthen their language skills. Expected proficiency level by end of course is in the intermediate range. Spanish III and IV will be combined courses.

Spanish IV 1 Credit
Students will study a variety of elements from the rich cultures of Spanish-speaking countries, with a focus on art, literature, historical events, popular culture, and way of life. Students will also refine and master grammar points. Reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills will be fine-tuned and perfected. In addition to keeping an organized notebook, students will complete a variety of projects. For those intending to go to college, this class will help prepare you for college placement tests and college level Spanish courses. Expected proficiency level by end of course is in the intermediate range. Spanish III and IV will be combined courses.
