The following are by-laws of the Ohio High School Athletic Association constitution which addresses scholarship requirements.
Students participating in ANY sport throughout the school year must be sure they are signed up for at least the minimum number of credits EACH semester (5 credits or the equivalent).
Please familiarize yourself with the following OHSAA Bylaws:
All beginning 9th graders must have received passing grades in a minimum of five of all courses taken in the last grading period of the 8th grade.
Eligibility for each grading period is determined by grades received the preceding grading period.
Semester and yearly grades have no effect on eligiblilty.
Grades 7-8: To be eligible, a student-athlete must be currently enrolled in a member school and have received passing grades in a minimum of four courses in the immediately preceding grading period.
Grades 9-12: To be eligible, a student-athlete must be currently enrolled in a member school and have received passing grades in a minimum of five 1-credit courses, or the equivalent, in the immediately preceding grading period.
*For eligibility, summer school grades may not be used to substitute for failing grades received in the final grading period of the regular school year or for lack of enough courses taken the preceding grading period.
**Odysseyware and other credit recovery courses do not count towards eligibility requirements.
**By state law, Tuslaw has adopted a minimum grade point average of 1.0 for participating in interscholastic extra-curricular activities. In determining eligibility, the GPA is calculated on the grades the student received in the immediately preceding grading period. it is not a cumulative GPA.

NCAA Eligibility at the College Level
All students interested in participating in collegiate athletics need 16 core course credits to be athletically eligible. Core Courses include: Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and Foreign Language.
Plato and other online courses do not count towards this requirements. Depending upon your course of study, this may be difficult to obtain. Therefore, students considering collegiate athletics are highly encouraged to take a foreign language during your freshman and sophomore year.
