Changes to Architecture
During the Renaissance the architects used math to build their buildings unlike Medieval times. The Renaissance architects used the style of building that the ancient Greeks and Romans had which used arches and pillars to both decorate and support their structures. During the Renaissance architects made churches bright and barely had stained glass windows unlike the previous style of Gothic that had been used for churches which was dull and covered with stained glass. The architecture in the renaissance started in Florence as well as the renaissance.
Brunelleschi's Cathedral Dome in Florence
Brunelleschi's dome was the first renaissance structure because he used math to figure out how to suspend his massive dome. To do this he created a system in which two thin layers of beams were used instead of the usual thick beam. this gave the dome the support it needed. Also he used a system in which the dome was built in layers and the layers held up the layer above until it reached the top where there is an opening called an oculus which was created by the Ancient Romans.
Renovation of the Plaza Del Campidoglio
Michelangelo lead the reconstruction of the Plaza Del Campidoglio and had the tower moved so it was centered with the staircase that was in the front. Michelangelo also had a star-shaped design constructed on the floor of the plaza, along with huge pilasters to connect the two stories of the side buildings. He also had the roofs flat as he did with most of his buildings. Michelangelo also had the roman goddess Roma sit in a throne below where the two staircases meet holding a globe to symbolize the "out stretched power of Rome. Lastly he had an old roman statue in the center of the plaza.

The Church of Sant' Andrea
Alberti was hired by the ruler of Mantua to enlarge the previous church that was small. Alberti added arches, pilasters chapels, and a dome. He sectioned off the building to add details to the sections and enlarged the area that the church was previously at to make space for the additions to the church.
