In the Renaissance, art was a key factor in society. There were many artists, all with different styles and mindsets. In the Northern Renaissance however, had four noteworthy artists. They are Brueghel, Holbein, Jan van Eyck, and Durer. Brueghel is known as "Peasant" Brueghel because of his peasant scenes in his paintings, Holbein was known as one of the best portraitists in the Northern Renaissance, Jan van Eyck believed to be the inventor of the oil-glazing technique, which replaced the earlier egg-tempera method, and Durer learned how to paint, word carving, and elementary copper engraving under Wolgemut.
